Alumna Profile: Amy Goldenberg Fox (NC ’93, P ’25)
When Amy Goldenberg Fox (NC ’93, P ’25) left her small Virginia hometown and first visited Tulane, she knew immediately that she had found her place. “As soon as we went to visit, I just fell in love,” she said. “Everything about it was completely different from where I grew up. It was a totally new adventure.”
Today, as chair of the Tulane Fund Advisory Board (TFAB), Fox channels that same sense of excitement into action. She works alongside fellow alumni, parents and friends to strengthen the university’s foundation and help make sure future generations of Tulanians have the same transformative experience she did.
Fox’s dedication to Tulane is deeply personal. Fourteen years ago, she lost her best friend and classmate, Robin Perlo Berry (NC ’93), in a devastating car crash. Berry’s husband was also killed, and two of their three young children were left paralyzed in the accident.
The loss shook Fox and Berry’s entire Tulane community. In the years since, Berry’s classmates have found a way to keep her memory alive, by supporting the university where she made such a lasting impact.
“Robin was such a big presence on campus and touched so many lives. I always try to lead by her example, in being engaged with the university and remembering her in everything I do.”
Berry herself was a scholarship recipient, so her classmates have honored her memory by supporting scholarships, ensuring that future students have the same opportunities Berry had. For Fox, every fundraising initiative, every scholarship supported, carries a dual purpose: strengthening Tulane’s future and honoring Berry’s past.
During Fox’s time as a Tulane student, she threw herself into campus life. “I was always the one who would raise my hand and say, ‘I can do that,’” she said. She was active in her sorority, served as a campus tour guide and taught at the Newcomb preschool.
Above all, Tulane fostered lasting friendships and connections. “The friends I made, the relationships I built there, to this day, they’re my very best friends.”
Her connection to Tulane deepened when her daughter, Sydney (SLA ’25), enrolled. “To have those four years where we experienced New Orleans together, I can’t even put it into words,” Fox said. “Now that she’s graduated, I stay involved because I care so deeply about the school and want more alumni to come back and see all the incredible improvements.”
For Fox, giving back to Tulane is also inseparable from her love of New Orleans. Over the years, she has returned to New Orleans to volunteer, especially after Hurricane Katrina, and she remains inspired by Tulane’s ongoing partnership with the city through service learning and community engagement. “Tulane and New Orleans are inseparable. That’s what makes it so special.”
Fox’s professional life reflects the same spirit of community. She works for the Jewish Federation of Greater Atlanta, now on the engagement side after years as a fundraiser.
Through her work with TFAB, Fox helps alumni stay connected to both Tulane and the New Orleans community. Members provide feedback on fundraising initiatives, offer volunteer and financial support, and share ideas for engaging fellow alumni. “It’s a great way to reconnect, give back and find creative ways to support the university,” she said. “Plus, it’s a wonderful excuse to come to New Orleans twice a year.”
Fox and her leadership team are particularly passionate about expanding TFAB’s reach. “We really want to bring in younger alumni in their late 20s, 30s and 40s,” she explained. She understands that younger alums who are building their careers or raising families might have limited time, but she’s eager to help them find ways to participate.
“If anyone’s interested, please reach out,” Fox said. “It’s such a warm, motivated group, and I feel like we’re just getting started. There’s so much potential to grow Tulane’s alumni and reunion programs and to build the next generation of volunteer leaders.”
