Tulane Table Host FAQ

How many students are typically invited to attend?

The number of students is determined by the host. We generally recommend 4-6 students per host to ensure meaningful networking and conversation. If a host would like to accommodate more students, we encourage adding one or more alumni co-hosts.

Once students register, are they expected to attend?

Yes. Students who commit to a Tulane Table are expected to attend. We communicate multiple times that hosts are generously providing their time and resources, and attendance is expected. Students who do not attend without notice may become ineligible for future Tulane Tables.

How are students invited? Who handles invitations?

The Office of Alumni Relations promotes Tulane Tables through a campus-wide email at the beginning of each semester. Interested students complete a registration form, and spots are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Students selected to participate receive several communications leading up to the event.

Are Tulane students, Newcomb students, or both invited?

All Newcomb-Tulane undergraduate students are eligible to participate.

Is the host expected to provide food and beverages?

Yes. Hosts are asked to provide food and beverages for attending students.

Is there a theme or discussion topic for the event?

Not typically. Hosts often choose to welcome students who share an interest in their career field or profession, which helps guide conversation naturally. The host serves as the discussion leader and facilitator, while students are encouraged to ask questions, share their experiences, and participate in networking. If conversation slows, the host can help reengage the group with additional discussion topics.

Are students asked about food allergies or other accommodations?

Yes. During registration, students are asked to indicate any dietary restrictions as well as food or pet allergies so accommodations can be planned appropriately.

Who selects the date and time?

During the summer, we work with prospective hosts to develop the academic year schedule. We meet with hosts to discuss logistics, answer questions, and identify a date and time that works well for both the host and students.

What is the typical date and time range for Tulane Tables?

Tulane Tables are scheduled around the Tulane academic calendar, considering holidays, breaks, and final exam periods. Events are typically held Monday through Thursday, last approximately 90 minutes, and begin between 5:30 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.
