Tulane Table

Tulane Table is a beloved Tulane tradition in which alumni bring together small groups of current students to network over dinner in their homes around New Orleans. Inspired by Tulane Table’s record of forging meaningful connections through conversation, good food and camaraderie, the Office of Alumni Relations is now actively seeking alumni hosts in the New Orleans area.

"Tulane Table proved to be a joy-filled evening and was all about support and mentorship. Hearing students share their dreams and hopes with Tulane alumni was so special,” said Kimberly Lackey (NC ’95).

“As a Tulane alumna, it was energizing to be able to offer advice and next steps for the students as they neared graduation! New perspectives and new plans developed as we all were inspired by their Tulane journeys and bright futures,” says Millibeth Currie (NC '89).

Part of the success of Tulane Table may stem from its flexibility. While the Office of Alumni Relations plans for two Tulane Table events per month, the number of attendees and specific student affinities are ever-changing.

By agreeing to participate, alumni will graciously host Tulane students and cover meal costs. However, co-hosting with other alumni can help manage costs, notes Assistant Director of Student & Young Alumni Programs Trevor Basehart.

Toni Weiss (G *89), executive director of Tulane’s Center for Engaged Learning and Teaching (CELT) and the Lawrence MvD Schloss Senior Professor of Practice in the Department of Economics was enthusiastic about her experience hosting.

"As both an alum and a current faculty member, I love having the opportunity to chat with a tableful of Tulane students in an environment and from a perspective that I usually can't create during the rest of the semester. I am grateful to Alumni Relations for making this initiative a priority."

Tulane Table is a special, one-of-a-kind experience, according to Basehart. Students love having the opportunity to connect with alumni over a dinner table. It provides a connection outside of the classroom that is incredibly meaningful.
