Tulane Alumni Association Mission Statement
The Tulane Alumni Association creates opportunities that connect alumni, foster loyalty to the University, and enhance the lifelong Tulane experience.
Purpose
The purpose of the Tulane Alumni Association is to unite into a permanent body the alumni of the colleges and schools of Tulane University in order to promote and further the mutual interests of the alumni and the University.
Volunteer Standards and Expectations
The actions of volunteers reflect on them individually as well as on the institution. The Volunteer Code of Conduct provides a common understanding of standards and expectations of Tulane University volunteers.
The Volunteer Code of Conduct assists our volunteers by clarifying departmental standards and processes. By establishing a mutual understanding and common set of expectations, the Office of Alumni Relations seeks to build a strong foundation for valuable and lasting relationships with our alumni volunteers.
Guidelines and Resources
- Tulane University’s Equal Opportunity/Anti-Discrimination Policy: All members of the Tulane community are required to abide by the university’s Equal Opportunity/Anti-Discrimination Policy (EO/AD Policy). This policy protects community members from discrimination on the basis of sex, gender, race, religion, age, national origin, disability, and other protected classifications.
- Behavioral Expectations: All volunteers represent Tulane University. Any behavior deemed inconsistent with the goals and objectives of the program or the University, or that violate any applicable University policy, may result in termination of the volunteer role or removal from Tulane University volunteer programs indefinitely. A list of Tulane University policies is available here: https://policy.tulane.edu/policy-library.
- Policy on Sexual Misconduct: Tulane University is All In to combat sexual violence. Tulane's motto, ‘Not for One’s Self, But for One’s Own’ expresses the care and safety we collectively strive to provide for each and every member of our community. All volunteers are obligated to abide by the University’s policies on discrimination, harassment, and sexual misconduct including the EO/AD Policy and Title IX policies.
- Use of Confidential Information and Confidentiality: As per the Confidentiality Statement for Volunteers, all information gained while volunteering for any Tulane University volunteer program is confidential and only to be used for legitimate purposes related to such programs. Information includes constituent data or information gained through conversations.
- Communications Expectations: Maintain respectful and professional verbal and written communications with alumni, students, parents, university staff and other constituents.
- Social Media Policies: Tulane University volunteers are advocates for Tulane University. The Tulane University Social Media Guidelines address university flagship account policies, and social media usage for both university departments/organizations/clubs and for individual users. They are intended to advise and guide Tulane volunteers who support social media initiatives for the University and those who indicate an institutional affiliation with Tulane University on their personal social media profiles.
- Event Expectations: Identify yourself as an alumni volunteer, not as an employee or official representative of the university, when engaging with third parties, including venues, media outlets, other universities, companies, etc. Direct questions that are beyond your expertise to the Office of Alumni Relations. No volunteer shall have the authority, either implied or expressed, to enter any contract in the name of the University.
Drug and Alcohol: Consider Tulane’s guidance for on-campus events: On occasion, Tulane University permits alcohol consumption on its premises for Tulane University sponsored functions or at other work-related functions. Employees are expected to abide by Tulane University’s standards of conduct when attending these functions (such as refraining from becoming intoxicated).
** The Code applies on and off campus. It also applies to on-line and electronic domains. Tulane University may choose to apply the Code of Conduct at any time and in any context in which the University has an identifiable interest.
**Please note that the Office of Alumni Relations reserves the right to disengage at any time with an alumni volunteer who does not adhere to the above guidelines, or whose actions are deemed inappropriate or unprofessional for their role. Similarly, volunteers may disengage their role with the Office of Alumni Relations at any time if they believe that their expectations are not being met or that their role is no longer fulfilling. Notice of such decisions should be communicated in writing as soon as possible.
